If you love Magic: The Gathering, tabletop games, and comics, you may already know about The Portal in downtown Grand Ledge. Located at 304 S Bridge Street, The Portal is the only game and collectible card shop in town — a place where fans can buy cards, browse comics, and play games with friends. 🃏✨
When you walk in, you’ll find a shop full of Magic: The Gathering products. There are also board games, Funko-style toys, collectible sleeves, and a selection of older comic books for fans who enjoy back issues. Tables and chairs are set up for trading-card battles and events.
But during several visits, the shop has often been very quiet. It can feel a little dark inside, with low lighting that makes it less inviting. And while Magic cards are easy to find, the shop has very limited Pokémon and Lorcanna stock, which are the most popular card games for kids and families right now. Some items sit on the shelves for a long time. 🕯️
Customer service is an important part of local shopping, and this is one area where The Portal could improve. On a recent visit, the shop owner did say hello — but continued working on his computer while a customer was left waiting at the counter. A friendly welcome and quick help can make a big difference in customer experience.
Because The Portal is the only trading-card store in Grand Ledge, many families would love to see more variety, brighter displays, and busier game tables. With more community events and restocks of popular games, the shop could become a favorite hang-out for players of all ages.
