LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Restaurant Review: Brickhaven Brewing Co
In the old City Hall building a block off Bridge Street is Brickhaven Brewing Co. A local brewer and restaurant known for it’s live music and hand crafted beer.

I stopped in the other day to check out the scene. I’ve been there before for Chamber mixers and such but never to actually enjoy the food, environment, and to check out one of their signature beers.
I walked into the main front door. It was packed. Had to sit on the far left side as the tables in front of the band playing was choc-a-bloc of people. The band played a mixture of 60s, 70s, 80s, and early 90s music.
I ordered my food and beer from the counter. I got the PBLT sandwich with apple slaw. As I enjoyed the music, and yes, singing along, I ate my meal and chatted to the couple the next table over.
Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves…

Local Grand Ledge Couple David and Anne Burwick Host Community Coat Drive
In a warm, comfortable home off Willow Highway in Grand Ledge is David and Anne Burwick and they are bring warmth and comfort to those in need with a community coat drive.
“We’ve gotten just tremendous response from the community. Everybody’s been very helpful,” said David.

They’re trying to repeat the success of last year’s coat drive
“We had a very successful run with it. We did about 750 coats and sweatshirts and hoodies and that kind of thing. Plus, a lot of boots and hats and scarves,” said David. “So, this year we went with two tents instead of just one. We’ve added blankets to it as well.”
They say they’re off a roaring success. After a week of announcing their community coat drive on social media they’ve had 150 donations of coats and sweaters, even boots, shoes, scarves, and mittens.
David went on to say they he hasn’t seen this level of generosity in 35 years.
You can make donations or pick up essentials for yourself at 906 Willow Highway in Grand Ledge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day until Dec. 21.
The tents will be closed on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29 so the Burwicks can enjoy their own holiday as well.
