This Friday, the Sun Theatre in Grand Ledge will open its doors for a special community film event — a free public screening of “Counted Out”, a powerful new documentary exploring how mathematics quietly shapes everything around us.
📍 Location: Sun Theatre, Grand Ledge🕙 Doors Open: 10:00 a.m.🎥 Film Starts: 10:30 a.m. sharp💬 Discussion: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
The film takes viewers on a journey through personal stories, classroom moments, and expert insights, all asking one big question: Why do so many Americans believe they’re “not math people”?
From the way votes are counted to the way social media feeds us news, math is the invisible force behind much of modern life. “Counted Out” challenges that divide, showing how math affects our education, job opportunities, and even the way we see the world.
“Math isn’t just numbers — it’s access, opportunity, and equity,” said Malikah Gregory of Eaton RESA, one of the organizers for the event. “We want every student and parent in our community to feel like math belongs to them.”
After the film, attendees are invited to stay for a community discussion on how to strengthen math education and confidence across local schools.
Educators, parents, administrators, and anyone passionate about helping students succeed are encouraged to attend. The event is free and open to the public.
