Grand Ledge has a lot to cheer about! One of our own, Al Horford, is heading to the Golden State Warriors for a brand-new chapter in his amazing basketball career. 🌉💛💙
Al once walked our hallways, played on our courts, and wore a Grand Ledge Comets jersey long before he became a college champion and an NBA All-Star. Today, the whole town is celebrating his journey and the pride he brings back home.
🏀 A Grand Ledge Beginning
Al grew up here in Grand Ledge and played basketball for the Comets in high school. He worked hard, stayed humble, and quickly became a local star. Fans still remember the dunks, the blocks, and his big smile on the court.
His success helped shine a bright light on Grand Ledge sports and inspired young players who dream big just like he did. Many families in town still talk about watching him play right here at home.
🎓 From Michigan to Major Wins
After high school, Al headed to the University of Florida, where he helped win two national championships. Then, he was drafted into the NBA, where he made a name for himself as one of the smartest and strongest big men in the game.
He spent many years with the Atlanta Hawks and then helped the Boston Celtics win an NBA Championship in 2024. Through every step, Grand Ledge watched with pride.
👨👩👧 Family Ties Never Broke
The Horford family is well-known in our community. His dad, Tito, also played in the NBA, and his brother Jon played basketball for Grand Ledge too. Even with a busy career, Al always made time to come back home — hosting camps, visiting his old school, and encouraging kids to chase their dreams. 🧡
Grand Ledge honored Al by retiring his high school jersey number, a huge sign of respect and love from his hometown.
🌉 A New Chapter in California
Now, Al is taking his talent to the Golden State Warriors, one of the most famous teams in the world. He will play alongside big stars, bring strong defense, and show leadership as the team pushes for another championship run. 🌟
Even though California is far from Michigan, Grand Ledge will be cheering loudly from home — every basket, every rebound, every win!
💬 Why Al Matters Here
Al shows us that big dreams can start in small towns. He reminds every kid shooting hoops in Grand Ledge parks that anything is possible with hard work, kindness, and heart.
The Comet spirit travels with him — from Grand Ledge… to Florida… to Boston… and now to the bright lights of the Bay Area. ✈️
Congrats, Al! Your hometown is always behind you. 📣Go Warriors — and Go Comets forever! 💛💙
