If you’ve lived in Grand Ledge for any length of time, you know what makes our town special isn’t just the ledges themselves—it’s the people who call this place home. And right now, one of our own needs us.❤️
Meet a 77-year-old Vietnam-era veteran who’s been a fixture in our community for most of his life. Living in his childhood home—the same house where he grew up, the same walls that hold decades of memories—he’s the kind of neighbor we all hope to have. The kind who waves from the porch, shares stories about the old days, and represents the very best of what Grand Ledge stands for.
But here’s the thing: that beloved home is struggling. The roof has been leaking for a long time, and our neighbor friend simply can’t wait much longer for help. Like so many of our seniors on fixed incomes, he’s caught between sky-high utility bills, property taxes, and the impossible math of modern living expenses. His monthly income covers the essentials—barely—but a major roof repair? That’s simply out of reach.
You might remember that devastating summer storm a couple years back that knocked out power across town. Lightning struck his home, requiring a complete electrical overhaul. Thank goodness insurance covered it. But this leaking roof? That’s a different story, and winter waits for no one.
Here’s where the story gets really good: Brunette Home Improvement has partnered with Acme Home Exteriors—yes, you read that right, competitors working together—to help get this veteran a new roof. Talk about Grand Ledge values in action! These local businesses are stepping up big time, but they need our community to partner with them to take this across the finish line.
This is Grand Ledge at its finest—businesses setting aside competition to serve a neighbor, and a whole community rallying together to make it happen.
Whether it’s $5 or $500, every contribution matters. Every share of the campaign helps. Every conversation at Darb’s or the farmers market spreads the word. This is our chance to honor a veteran who served our country and now needs our community to serve him.
So Grand Ledge, let’s prove once again why we’re the kind of town where neighbors become family and even competitors become partners for a good cause. Let’s get this roof done before the snow flies.
