A long-time nonprofit in Grand Ledge will have to close for the winter.

Ledge Craft Lane has been open for more than 50 years, but a broken heating system means it must shut its doors after Christmas Eve.

Ledge Craft Lane is a place where local artists sell their work and people come to shop and take art classes. It has been a big part of the community for many years.

The building’s heating system broke down and needs a new one.

The group needs $32,000 to fix it.

They started raising money in June, but they still do not have enough.

Right now, the shop is using small space heaters to stay warm.

The board hopes to raise money before the cold winter weather gets worse.

But so far, the fundraising has not reached the goal.

“This will be the first time the store has ever shut down in 53 years,” said the president of the nonprofit.

Art classes have already been canceled because of the heat problem.

This has cost the nonprofit money, too.

They are also changing how they are set up so people who give can get a tax break.

Before the building closes for the winter, the group plans to prepare it for cold weather and clear out some things inside.

They will check on the building during the winter months.

To help raise money, the nonprofit is holding a special silent auction.

They are also selling special pens to support the new heating system.

The leaders of Ledge Craft Lane hope people will help so it can open again in the spring.

But if they don’t raise the money Ledge Craft Lane may never open again.

They want the place to be warm and ready for the next 50 years of serving the community.
