The Log Jam is simple comfort food. It is also a Grand Ledge Institution.
This cute and small restaurant sits right behind MacDowells.
They have burgers and beer.
The name is Log Jam. So guess what? It looks like a log home!
There are tan log beams everywhere. They have a fireplace. And they have a wood bar like most restaurants.
The Log Jam has lots of seats in the front and in the back.
A sign says to seat yourself. So you can pick where you want to sit!
I have not been here in a really long time. It was way before the new owners came.
I have to say the place looks the same. My Dad and I used to come here for beer and burgers.
I like when things stay the same. It makes me remember the good old times.
Today was weird though.
Today is December 5th. It is a Friday. Tonight is the Grand Ledge Light Night Parade.
That means thousands of people come to see the Christmas parade on Bridge Street.
The Log Jam was PACKED!
Like really really packed!
When I walked in, I saw some tables that were empty.
But they had dirty dishes on them from other people.
I don't blame the workers. The place was so busy it was going JAMMING!
Get it? Log JAM?
I saw one spot at the bar.
I walked over to a nice older couple sitting next to it.
I asked if I could sit there. They said "sure!" I moved some dirty glasses out of the way.
I guess that spot is where servers put glasses to be washed. Oops!
Lucky me. I was sitting at the dirty glass spot!
I started talking to the couple next to me. I asked if they come here a lot. They said yes. So I asked what I should order. They told me to get the bacon burger with fries.
So that's what I got!
There was only one bartender. Her name was Jess. She was very pretty and nice.
But it was hard to get her attention because she was so busy.
I ordered my food and a Sprite.
The couple next to me was talking about their beer. They said it was flat.
Some other people said their beer was flat too. Then my Sprite came.
Guess what?
It was flat too! No bubbles at all!
I think their carbonation machine was broken or turned off.
My Sprite tasted good. It just didn't have fizz.
They did fix the machine later. But it took a long time.
I thought they would fix it faster. Flat drinks are not fun!
I wasn't really mad about my flat drink. There are bigger problems in the world. But I wish they cared more when I told them.
They didn't say sorry. They didn't take it off my bill. They didn't give me a new one. They just did nothing.
Again, I wasn't mad. It just made me feel a little sad.
Maybe they forgot because they were so busy. Maybe they wanted to help but got too busy. I'll give them a pass this time.
My food came really fast!
I was surprised because they were so busy.
The burger was good. Almost great! It was one of the best burgers I've had around here.
Now let's talk about the fries.
People say McDonald's has the best fries. WRONG! NOT TRUE!
The Log Jam has THE BEST FRIES EVER! In my opinion anyway.
They were crispy. They were crunchy. They didn't have too much oil. The seasoning was perfect.
I would order just the fries by themselves.
No burger needed! I give the fries 5 out of 5 stars!
So overall it was good.
The customer service could have been better.
They were super busy because of the parade. So I understand.
The flat pop thing was still a bummer though. They should have tried to make it right. But the food was amazing!
I give the Log Jam 4.4 stars!
